Welcome to my blog. I have now officially concluded my first semester at the Village School as of January 2020. Throughout that time, I found myself being exposed to unique genres and formats of writing as well as techniques such as annotating texts and writing commentaries that analyze those texts in great depth. It was because of my IB English class that I was able to ultimately annotate and write a commentary that I completed for my midterm exam and received an IB grade of 6. This pleasantly surprised me because growing up, my learning disabilities resulted in my severely poor reading and writing skills.
However, I was not alone in my journey to ameliorate my English writing and reading skills last fall semester.

Support was by my side every step of the way by means of a tutor with whom I met and continue to meet regularly on a weekly basis and by means of my IB English teacher. Because of the support received from both of them, I was able to unlock my hidden potential and thrive in and contribute to my IB English class.
All of this taught me an important lesson; receiving support in something that you struggle with, is not bad and is often overlooked when determining how to deal with something one struggles with.
It may sound cliché, but it is the truth.
In my context, receiving support meant learning techniques such as annotating, writing structured and cohesive papers and learning how to critically analyze the significance behind a piece of literary or non-literary text. Receiving this support acted as a compass which would provide a sense of guidance and familiarity with the content of my IB English class and eventually led me to complete my midterm exam successfully.
